Making Learning Visible
At St Bernardine's, we have embraced the pedagogical framework of Visible Learning, across all year levels from P-6. This approach, grounded in the principles of visible teaching and visible learning, ensures that the educational journey of each student is clear, precise, and measurable.
Visible Learning is a dynamic model that focuses on making both teaching and learning explicitly observable. For our students, this means that the learning process is transparent, and they are empowered to become active participants in their education. They learn to understand the impact of their actions, developing skills in self-regulation and fostering a love for lifelong learning.
One of the key elements in our approach is the use of specific learning language, known within our community as "Focus on Growth." This language helps students articulate the phase of the learning process they are in. By clearly identifying their current stage, they can set realistic and achievable goals to progress to the next step. This focus on growth encourages a mindset of continuous improvement and resilience.
Furthermore, at St Bernardine's, feedback plays a crucial role in the learning journey. Feedback is intricately linked to learning intentions and success criteria, providing students with clear and actionable insights into their progress. This targeted feedback helps students understand not only what they have achieved, but also how they can improve and advance further.
Through this structured and supportive environment, we aim to nurture confident, competent, and passionate learners who are well-equipped for future challenges. At St Bernardine's, the Visible Learning framework is not just a teaching method but a whole-school commitment to enhancing the educational experience and outcomes for every student.
